    Useful comparison, thanks! One suggestion is I'm not sure I would necessarily organize/name your code by the type of thing that it is (MyThingClass, MyThingStruct) etc. but rather just by the role it plays in your app. I would consider that an implementation detail of the object and not something you necessarily want to leak as part of its public API. If you can change something from a Struct, to an ActiveModel::Model, to a Data object, without changing its public API then there's no reason for its callers to care what it is and it makes those types of refactors more difficult later. Just my two cents.

    • @WinstonCodesOn
      @WinstonCodesOn 6 дней назад

      It's kind of a design choice. I've included the type in the name because that could imply different capabilities. Since Ruby doesn't have type checking, I did that so it would be more obvious if a breaking change occurs. If you change properties of the object you are passing around, it might work for most of the cost but there might be that one line or two you forget to update which would give you a NoMethodError - a problematic edge case of duck typing!

    Personally I like types. They make refactoring and handling breaking changes easier. I remember there where breaking changes in Rails (or Ruby) once that weren't listed in the upgrade notes. So annoying. Causes so much work, bugs you only find when running the code. One could argue though that TypeScript became too complex of a beast. Maybe jsdoc types are enough? Dunno. But if a framework doesn't support any kind of types? Well, I just don't use it. I might complain on my Mastodon if I'm forced to use it by my company, but I don't think that's what happening with Theo. Personally he comes across a bit strange to me. Can't describe it any better.

    • @WinstonCodesOn
      @WinstonCodesOn 25 дней назад

      I don't mind types. The thing I hate about TS is that they go nuts with it and make very complicated dynamic types of types so much that it erodes the value of types in the first place. Every small change can require massive amounts of work retyping everything.

    • @blenderpanzi
      @blenderpanzi 24 дня назад

      @@WinstonCodesOn Yeah, the going nuts with types isn't good. But I do like some of the more advanced features in typescript where parameter types can determine return types, as it is used in ORMs/query builders. I like having a typed result from the database even if I only select some columns etc.

    Verizon, what a bunch or crooks, never ever get Verizon. They are the worst of the worst for customer service, straight out of India. Slow speeds 20 to 60 mbs internet speeds and there salesman lie and will tell you anything to get you to signup. I was promised $30 dollars a line for 4 lines and $30 dollars for the internet for a total monthly bill of $170 a month. My first bill was $255 and came after only 10 days, my second bill was $272 20 days later, my third bill was $292 and my forth bill was $304. After several calls fighting through the Verizon assistant to get to a real person in India, I was told Verizon never honors what their sales people say. I canceled Verizon and was then charged $569 in equipment fee's even though I returned their equipment. I switched to T-Mobile, they are not perfect but they have excellent customer service and they are honest and clear about their pricing. Never get VERIZON!!!!!

    Thank you for this incredible video. If you have the opportunity or if you've done it since, would you be willing to try shielding the router in the direction of the house? i.e. if you put a metal mesh between the router and your PC did it meaningfully reduce the EMF production and did it have any effect on the quality of the internet?

    • @WinstonCodesOn
      @WinstonCodesOn Месяц назад

      That might interfere with its ability to connect with the cell towers. I don't know which towers it's connecting to. I don't want to block it in the direction of the house because I have devices in here using the Wifi and that would void the whole purpose of the router. In my followup video I moved it to another location that's away from where humans linger so that alleviates my RF concerns. The amount of radiation exponentially drops the farther you get from it, which is also one reason 5G high band signals are not used a whole lot by telecom equipment. The high power signals are easily blocked and have a short travel distance.

    I signed up for the Verizon 5G Home Internet service back in December 2023, and in my case, the promotion offered (for 100 mbps download and 10 mbps upload speed) was receiving a Verizon e-card (gift card) in the amount of $50.00 and also an Amazon e-card in the amount of $50.00. I received both e-cards in a timely manner, and easily found out on the Verizon site that the Verizon e-card could be applied to my bill, which was $50.00. Did that. Piece of cake. Free month, yay. *Not sure why you said you could only use your e-card in the amount of $200.00 to buy stuff specifically from Verizon and not apply that to your bill, unless I am missing something here. So far, my service has been acceptable for my Internet needs, except for one recurring problem. I do a speed test randomly, and sometimes, a few times a month, I notice that my download speed has been lowered 50% or so but the upload speed is unaffected. Apparently, the 5G 'sugar cube' gateway changes over to the 4G LTE back-up system, which is fine 'n dandy, but does not change back to the 5G service and the expected download speed, unless I unplug the gateway, wait several seconds, plug it back in, and then wait for that glorious steady white light to appear. Added note: I get e-mails from Verizon regarding billing BUT I also keep getting a pre-printed notice in the mail about being unable to text me (which could jeopardize autopay and lose the $10.00 per month discount). Autopay and paperless billing gets auto-toggled off and I have to toggle them back on every month. Very frustrating and annoying for sure. The 5G gateway, since it works on the Verizon celluar service, has it very own cell phone number, and DUH, it can not receive texts. When I try to change that number online to my cell phone number (my cell phone uses Tracfone service that uses Verizon's towers), there is currently no way to do so and Verizon has not been of any help at all (they seem clueless) as to how to rectify the problem.

    We've used a distiller for about 30 years (2 different ones). It takes about 5 to 6 hours to distill. Every couple of months you fill the distiller with white vinegar and let it sit for several hours. Then all the hard deposits clean out easily. I save the used vinegar and use it again a few times. Then I put the well used vinegar to sit in the toilet to clean out calcium deposits. Our water tastes fine. We don't use the charcoal filter. I'm 75 and never been to the ER, never hospitalized, never had surgery, and never have broken a bone.

    I recently switched from AT&T DSL to the Verizon Home Internet. On the plus side for Verizon, you can take the white box and plug it in anywhere there is a Verizon signal. If you have a second home, a vacation or hunting cabin, a hotel, a vacant rental you're doing work on, or even to your job. Say you're a security guard in a guardshack and there's no Wi-Fi provided, if there's electricity u can bring the Verizon white box, plug it in and ur good to go. You wouldn't do that with a DSL router. I've considered picking up at 12v dc adapter that converts to 110 and plugs into a car's cigarette lighter or charger outlet. With all the warnings about free WiFi like Starbucks or McD's, why not?

    It’s such a huge improvement over Spectrum. And half the price. It’s good enough for online gaming too.

      When you connect the cable directly from the computer to the router. Not Wifi.

      @@petehboy2 Wifi 6? As I show in my video, Ethernet is the best. Wifi 6 gets you up to the 300Mbps download speed of the outside internet, but network transfers within the local network are not as fast as having both computers connected via Ethernet. Slightly more lag too on Wifi 6 vs Ethernet. I would have kept he box in the room with the Ethernet cables connected, but I had concerns about the health effects of RF radiation.

    After seeing this video, I was kind of relieved that I could not buy this, being from Canada. I personally would have paid more if it was better manufactured and key elements like remote and USB power source. At best this should be around the $300.00 range. 1. Disappointed with the stand. 2. Screw hole could have been made into docking ports. 3. Light bleeding though poorly finished product. 4. Weathering was poorly done by manufacture.
